About this event
For students considering a career in Architecture. This program serves as an introduction to the role of an Architect, the journey of architectural studies leading to becoming a registered Architect.
Students will learn about the differentiated opportunities from Diploma, Undergraduate and Masters in Architecture to better understand the uniqueness of architecture pedagogy, the possible career paths and multitude of options available so they can be better informed in making the major decision to embark on the extensive architecture learning journey.
During these 3 days, students will get to experience the design process of a project from scratch where the steps of Design Thinking methodology are introduced to understand and define the needs and challenges of who they are designing for. They will begin their preliminary design with sketches before building up their ideas in 3D, both as a physical model and digitally through SketchUp, a 3D modelling computer-aided design software commonly used by Architects.
On the 3rd day, students will be introduced to tools and tips to graphically layout their presentation board ready for their Design Crit, a simulated presentation format common to architecture students. The 3-day program will end with presentation sharing by speakers who are practicing Architects, Architecture Educator, Graduate Architects and/ or Architecture students who can provide an overview of their exciting and creative journey to date.
The project completed at the workshop can be included in student’s portfolio preparation.
